Stering Silver Jewish Shabbat Candlesticks
The lighting of Shabbat candles is one of the oldest continuous rituals in Jewish life. The blessing recited over the candles welcomes the Sabbath bride, and the eighteen minutes before sundown when the candles are lit are among the most cherished moments of the week. The candlesticks used in this ritual are passed down through generations in many families, which gives them a particular gravity beyond ordinary household objects.
Our Shabbat candlesticks collection covers the main design traditions. Yemenite-filigree candlesticks, woven from fine threads of silver into ornate columns, are perhaps the most recognizably Israeli style; they evoke the silversmithing tradition of San'a and feel particularly traditional. Modern Israeli candlesticks, designed in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem ateliers, work in cleaner geometric forms with brushed or polished finishes, suitable for contemporary Shabbat tables. Classical European styles (taller, more architecturally columnar) remain popular for those who want a more formal aesthetic. Traveling candlestick sets, which fold or collapse for transport, are common gifts for newly married couples and those who travel frequently.
Most sets are sold as pairs (two candlesticks for the woman of the household), though five-piece sets (two for the woman, one for each child) and graduated family sets are also available. Matched silver trays for catching wax can be added at checkout. Sterling silver pieces are hallmarked with the .925 stamp, silver-plated bronze is finished to the same visual standard but at a lower price tier, and 14K gold pieces are produced on commission. Every set ships worldwide from our Jerusalem workshop with a certificate of authenticity. Hebrew engraving on the base (typically the names of the couple and the Hebrew date of their wedding) is a common addition for wedding gifts.
