Sterling Silver Shabbat Challah Board

The Challah board (or Challah tray) holds the two braided Challah loaves that are placed on the Shabbat table at the start of the Friday night and Shabbat morning meal. The two loaves recall the double portion of manna that fell on Friday in the desert, allowing the Israelites to keep Shabbat without gathering food. The Challah board is therefore one of the most universally used pieces of Shabbat Judaica, appearing on every Shabbat table in the year.

Our Challah board collection covers several material traditions. Solid hardwood boards (walnut, olivewood, maple) are the most traditional, often paired with sterling silver or pewter trim around the edges. Sterling silver Challah boards work in larger formats, frequently engraved with Hebrew lettering of the Shabbat blessing ("baruch atah Hashem...") or floral and geometric patterns around the border. Combination boards pair Jerusalem stone, Eilat stone, or Roman glass with wood or silver framing, creating distinctly Israeli pieces unavailable outside the country.

Most boards are sized to accommodate two standard Challahs side by side, typically around 14 to 16 inches in length. Matched Challah covers (the cloth that drapes over the loaves until they are blessed) and Challah knives (with handles in matching metal or stone) can be added at checkout to complete the set. Wedding Challah boards, often engraved with the couple's names and the Hebrew date of their wedding, are one of our most-requested gift commissions. Every board ships worldwide from our Jerusalem workshop with a certificate of authenticity for the materials used.
