Sterling Silver Kiddush Cups from Israel
The Kiddush cup is the centerpiece of the Friday night Shabbat table and the Festival meals throughout the Jewish year. The blessing recited over the wine in the cup sanctifies the moment, and the cup itself becomes one of the most cherished ritual objects in any home. A well-made silver Kiddush cup is also among the most traditional Bar Mitzvah, wedding, and milestone gifts.
Our Kiddush cup collection covers the main traditions. Yemenite-filigree Kiddush cups feature fine threads of silver woven into intricate textured surfaces around the bowl and stem; they are unmistakable in style and among the most recognizably Israeli pieces in the workshop. Modern contemporary Kiddush cups work in cleaner geometric forms with brushed or polished finishes, often with raised Hebrew lettering of the blessing on the bowl. Classical European styles (taller, more architecturally tapered) suit more formal Shabbat tables. Larger Eliyahu cups (the cup of Elijah, traditionally placed at the Seder table at Passover and filled with wine for the prophet) are produced in heavier, more dramatic forms.
Capacities follow ritual requirements: the cup must hold at least a reviit (approximately 86 ml or 3 oz) of wine to fulfil the obligation. Our standard cups hold considerably more, typically 120 ml to 200 ml. Matched trays for catching drips can be added at checkout. Sterling silver pieces are hallmarked with the .925 stamp. Hebrew engraving on the base (the name of the recipient and the Hebrew date of the occasion) is the most popular addition, particularly for Bar Mitzvah and wedding presentation pieces. Every cup ships worldwide from our Jerusalem workshop with a certificate of authenticity.
